オノマトペのクイズで日本語レッスン!Onomatopoeia quiz for Japanese Lesson
「オノマトペ」を知っていますか?Do you know "onomatopoeia"?
Onomatopoeia is the imitation of states, emotions, or the sounds and movements of animals. Onomatopoeia can be classified into two categories: onomatopoeia and mimetic words.
"Onomatopoeia" is the imitation of sounds, such as noises of objects or animals, in human speech. For example, a dog's meow is "wan wan," a cat's is "meow meow," and so on.
"Mimetic words" are words that mimic the state or gesture of a thing by imitating it. Compared to other languages, Japanese is characterized by a large number of mimetic words. For example, "niko niko" means smiling, "biribiri" means tearing a piece of paper, and so on.
Some onomatopoeias express more than one aspect in a single word. For example, "goro goro" is both the rumble of thunder and the rumble of relaxing at home.
